Coaching supervision through a neuro-affirmative lens
A psychologically safe and structured space where we explore the situation through a neuroaffirmative supervision lens.
Rather than aiming to “solve” the issue, we focus on supporting reflective learning, ethical awareness, and development of the supervisee’s professional judgement.
- We explain, not excuse - expectation, explanation, evolution
- We look through four neuroaffirmative lenses - client, practitioner, relational and systemic.
- You feel you can coach with confidence
What is coaching supervision?
Coaching supervision is a space where behaviour and decisions can be explored within context rather than judged in isolation.
Together, we will be intentional in order to:
- reduce potential shame or defensiveness
- model a neuroaffirmative approach to learning
- create permission to explore uncertainty
When we are in true coaching mode, we hold the space for our clients. But what do we do with our feelings? What if we’re triggered? It WILL happen, and that is why we all need supervision when we are a coach.
How COACHING Supervision Helps
Coaches are not robots, we have feelings too.
I am always mindful of the power dynamics inherent in supervision, particularly given that supervision can sometimes unintentionally replicate evaluative or hierarchical dynamics. My questions remain invitational rather than prescriptive.

Sharing insights
I only share insights selectively and transparently so that any self-disclosure or professional knowledge remains in service of the supervisee’s development rather than shifting focus to my own experiences.

Emotional and cognitive awareness
I explore what might have been happening internally for the supervisee at the time of a situation. This supports awareness of emotional and cognitive processes that can influence practitioner responses.

Learning and development
Rather than offering immediate advice, I encourage the supervisee to identify what they felt had worked well and what they might experiment with doing differently in future.
This approach allows the supervisee to retain ownership of their professional development.

Reflective practice
My supervisory approach is grounded in the belief that supervision should balance accountability with compassion. I remain congruent with this philosophy by avoiding judgemental language, validating the supervisee’s experience, and maintaining clear boundaries about my role

Coaches are human too
Navigate challenges with empathy, resilience, and confidence. Coaches experience feelings like their clients and need a safe space to explore them. Especially if the are a sole practitioner.

Values-driven practice
Foster accountability, progress, and a sense of purpose that aligns with your values.
